A construction permit has been approved for the site of 5523 S Indiana Avenue in the Washington Park neighborhood, where owner BGI LLC has planned a four-story, three-unit residential building. The new structure is set to include a rooftop deck and stair enclosure, as well as a front deck, a rear full-height porch, and a detached three-car garage with a rooftop deck.
John Hanna of Hanna Architects is behind the design. No designs have yet been revealed, though the mention of multiple masonry contractors may suggest a brick or stone exterior.
Public transit can be found for Route 55, with closest bus service via a minute’s walk north to Garfield & Indiana. Other buses can be found for Route 3 via a six-minute walk northeast to King Drive & Garfield, as well as for Route 29 via a seven-minute walk northwest to State & Garfield. Meanwhile for rail access, residents will find the CTA L’s Green Line via a four-minute walk northeast to Garfield station. The Red Line is available via the other Garfield station, a 13-minute walk northwest.
The development is also in the immediate vicinity of the sprawling Washington Park, with an array of activities such as various sports courts, open fields, a lagoon, trails, and a garden.
The roughly $1.1 million construction will be carried out by 5 Seasons Development Company, and will be replacing a vacant lot. Currently, it is unknown when project is expected to complete.
