Construction permits have been issued for a two-story residential building at 1712 N Mason Avenue in the North Austin neighborhood.

The owner, listed as GT Alternatives LLC, is planning two total units for the building, as well as additional basement space, front stairs, rear porches, and a detached two-car garage.

The architect of record is listed as local firm Stern Group Architects. No renderings have yet been revealed, although DS Construction Inc. is listed as the masonry contractor on the permit, suggesting a brick facade. The surrounding buildings also contain relatively uniform massings and brick styles, so it is unclear how much the design will deviate from this prescriptive aesthetic.

The site is located just two blocks southeast of the 16-acre Amundsen Park, which contains a variety of fields, tracks, and courts. The major W North Avenue can also be found via a three-minute walk south, with access to dining and retail outlets in both the west and east directions.

For bus transit in the area, Route 91 can be found around the block at N Austin Avenue and W Wabansia Avenue, a two-minute walk southwest. Route 72 can also be accessed via a four-minute walk south to the North Avenue & Mayfield stop. While the nearest CTA L Green Line is a 36-minute walk south to Austin station, the Galewood and Hanson Park Metra stations can be found both northwest and northeast of the site, each an 18-minute walk.

Pezzutti Construction is the general contractor for the development, projected to cost $275,000. A completion date has not yet been announced.
