A pair of three-unit residential buildings were permitted in mid-July for a vacant lot on the northwest corner of South Wabash Avenue and East 56th Street in the Washington Park neighborhood. On July 14th, permits for 5542 and 5544 South Wabash came through to allow for the construction of two three-flats from Knightsbridge Development LLC. Although the specs detailed in the two permits are the same, 5542 carries with it a reported cost of $450,000, while 5544 cites a reported cost of $550,000.

Fargo Group LLC, which shows the same address in the permits as Knightsbridge, will be the general contractor, with Angel Sida named as the architect of record. Details include two-story rear wood porches, six-foot wood and five-foot wrought iron fencing enclosing the properties, and three surface parking spaces for each building. Basement levels are not indicated, nor is frame or masonry construction specified. It is not yet clear if the six new units will be offered for sale, or if they will be rental apartments.

Residents of 5542 and 5544 South Wabash will live within a block of north-south CTA bus service via Route 29 along South State Street and east-west #55 buses at East Garfield Boulevard. The Garfield Green Line elevated platform is about four blocks to the east, with Route 55 buses providing a connection when desired. Washington Park and its myriad leisure activities is five blocks to the east.
