A two-unit building at 6508 South Evans Avenue in Woodlawn demolished more than a decade ago has now been permitted for a two-flat replacement. The new permit, which had been pending in the Chicago Data Portal since September 2024, came through on March 3 with a reported cost of $450,000.

The permit names Silver Landex JV LLC as the developer, with Civic Projects Architecture as the architect of record and M Street Construction of Oak Park as the general contractor. This is the third collaboration for this development team over the past three months. They received their first permit for two units at 6339 South Langley Avenue in December, and followed that up with another two-flat permit for 6411 South Champlain Avenue on February 4.

Similar to the first two permits, few details are included for 6508 South Evans. It will be a two-story building with a basement, and a detached two-car garage will be erected at the alley behind the property. The subject parcel, nestled between a vintage 1912 residence and a two-flat completed in 2009, has been vacant since demolition of the previous residence was permitted on October 3, 2014.

6508 South Evans is situated just south of the intersection with East 65th Street. The Cottage Grove Green Line platform is a two-block walk north to 63rd Street, where the CTA’s Route 63 bus makes stops going eastbound and westbound. For north-south travel, the #4 bus stops one block east at South Cottage Grove Avenue and 65th Street. The 63rd Street Metra station is about a mile east; the #63 bus stops at that station.
