A new construction permit issued in Garfield Park will help fill a small gap in a large vacant parcel in the 2600 block of West Maypole Avenue. A private developer filed for a permit at 2656 West Maypole on December 3 of last year, and the permit came through on May 9. It allows for a two-story plus basement, two-unit frame building and a two-car garage with a roof deck.

Eduardo Proenza is named as the architect of record, and Unico Builders will serve as the general contractor. The permit shows a reported construction cost of $450,000. The new homes will replace a vacant lot, so no demolition will be required. Another two-unit residence next door at 2658 West Maypole got construction permission in March of 2022. There are several empty plots of land at the west end of the site, but as yet there are no other permits pending to fill those spaces.
