A four-story, six-unit apartment building has begun construction at 1624 North Damen Avenue in the Wicker Park neighborhood. The full building permit, issued June 27 of this year and assigned to 1628 North Damen, calls for retail space at ground level. Balconies at the front and rear of the building, designed by 360 Design Studio, are also included on the permit. No parking spaces are mentioned.
Mavrek Development is both general contractor and developer for 1624 North Damen Avenue. The apartment building fills in an empty lot that had been vacant for a considerable amount of time. Mavrek’s website indicates units will be available for rent in 2025.
Two blocks south of the apartment building is the Damen/Milwaukee/North six-point intersection. Here, residents can access bus service for Routes 50, 56, and 72, as well as the Damen Blue Line station.

Density is fine, I want another floor or two -but this is a lacking facade
What is with developers adding fat foreheads to buildings? Would it kill them to add a simple cornice?
It would be great to hyperlink the word “permit” in your stories, which would take the reader to the Cook county website
Noo, they changed it again! Those windows look far too small and the parapet is out of proportion. Why couldn’t they leave a good thing alone.
Agreed, the last iteration (posted Jan 31 on Urbanize) was better, unless YIMBY is using an old rendering?
Nevermind, Urbanize posted this same rendering today. Looks like we got a slight downgrade, but maybe the final product will look better.
Nice enough looking piece
Its inoffensive which is more than can be said for many similar such structures going up lately
