The Illinois Capital Development Board is now accepting bids for the construction of the Discovery Partners Institute (DPI) headquarters, a key component of the University of Illinois System’s Illinois Innovation Network. The state-of-the-art facility will be located within The 78, a 62-acre development along the Chicago River, on a 1.5-acre site donated by developer Related Midwest.

The 78 is set to become a mixed-use neighborhood, with the potential addition of a new White Sox stadium. Recent renderings and details have been revealed for the proposed stadium, which will see the team relocate from their current home at Guaranteed Rate Field near Bridgeport. If plans move forward, the overall site plan of The 78 will need to be reconfigured, with the DPI headquarters still included in the plans.

According to a press release by the Discovery Partners Institute the OMA and Jacobs-designed headquarters will feature over 200,000 square feet of space for offices, classrooms, laboratories, and events, serving as a hub for innovation and collaboration. The state of Illinois has allocated approximately $235 million for the construction of the facility, which is expected to achieve LEED Gold certification upon its completion in 2027.

The Capital Development Board has set a deadline of April 16 for construction bid submissions. Interested contractors can attend a pre-bid question and answer session today, March 12 at 10 a.m., which will be held at the Discovery Partners Institute’s present location on 200 S. Wacker Drive.

I just want them to open the damn road connecting to China Town. Is that too hard to ask?
But seriously, I can’t wait for this project to go up. I wish they would split the massive parcel to many individual developers so that one entity wasn’t the sole proprietor. Chicago is seriously fumbling these mega-developments.
It seems the road is removed in the rendering? I wonder what’s gonna happen if they are really going to build the stadium.
The road is to “wind” around the stadium. Still remain but they will destroy and rebuild.
A real waste of infrastructure and time.
