Permits have been issued for a renovation project at 1550 N Lake Shore Drive in Gold Coast. The project involves replacing both the shared and private rooftop decks of the 33-story, 200-unit residential building. These renovations are significant for enhancing the outdoor spaces of the building, offering residents improved amenities and recreational areas. The building is classified under Occupancy Type R-2 and Type 1A construction, with no changes planned for its occupancy or egress.
Architect Michael Ryan is overseeing the design and execution of the renovation. Chicago Roof Deck & Garden, a local firm specializing in outdoor space design and construction, has been appointed as the general contractor.
The project is estimated to cost of $50,000. The total permit fees for the renovation are $926. 1550 N Lake Shore Drive is situated in a prime location in Gold Coast, with residents steps from Lake Michigan, as well as bus stops for the Route 151 line. Additionally, stops for Routes 9, 22, 36, 72, and 73 are a seven-minute walk to the west of the building. Beyond those transit options, the Sedgwick CTA station, which services the Brown and Purple Lines, is a 16-minute walk to the west of the property.

I’m not sure exactly what kind of “renovation” is expected with a budget of only $50k…..
Yeah, with an Architect and GC i am thinking about 10 planters before money runs out.
