The City of Chicago has approved updated plans for the ongoing construction of Coppia, a 20-story mixed-use building at 1101 W Van Buren Street in West Loop. Managed by 1061 West Van Buren Partners LLC, the project is positioned between two existing apartment buildings and is part of the West Loop’s continued development.

The revised permit, issued on September 25, 2023, introduces a new entrance canopy and optimized restroom layouts on the ground floor. The construction, including shallow foundations and a partial superstructure, follows earlier permits, with the latest modifications falling under direct developer services for efficiency.

Designed by architect Patrick Loughran, the modification to the permit adds to the initial project design by Goettsch Partners and will feature 298 apartment units, ground-level retail space, a co-working area, a game room, and bike storage. The exterior of the building is made up of a glass curtain wall facade with recessed windows and a stepped roofline. The structure also highlights exposed brick columns along Van Buren Street. Power Construction Company, LLC is the general contractor for 1101 Van Buren Street.

The development includes 82 parking spaces, bolstering the West Loop’s infrastructure. When complete, the project will be steps from stops for the 126 bus line, and a 4 minute walk from the CTA Racine station, which services the Blue Line.

  1. Interesting they want a ground floor restaurant, this area of Van buren doesn’t have the most foot traffic or nearby restaurants… Still excited to see what comes

It would be great to see though. It’s amazing how much has been built in this section of the West Loop on Van Buren in the last 5 years. The Landmark apartment, The Avra and The Sage all added with more in the works. This section feels like a downtown city block when walking around here now. Hopefully all the residents added will add a restaurant and fill up some of the empty retail spots from the newer buildings. The Target now feels out of place a little bit for being so spread out instead of more dense with apartments on top. I can’t believe how fast this area has changed.
