Renovation permits have been approved for an existing three-story masonry building under the address 1840 W Augusta Boulevard in West Town. The alterations will comprise of an interior conversion from six to eight dwellings, as well as the construction of a new rear porch and basement slab. The permit ownership has been listed under the name “1840 W Augusta LLC Agent Gabe Horstick.”
The design involves a red brick cladding with decorative limestone elements and cornice pieces. Given the building’s designation as part of the East Village Historic District and the interior-oriented nature of the renovation, the frontage of the building should remain fully preserved. All changes within the scope of the renovation have been listed under Hemal Purohit as the architect of record.
Closest bus transit can be found at the intersection of Damen & Augusta via a four-minute walk west. Other buses within walking distance involve Route 66 to the south at Chicago & Wolcott, as well as Route 70 to the north at Division & Wood. Meanwhile, any residents looking to board the CTA L Blue subway line will find Division station accessible via a 13-minute walk northeast.
The property is in the vicinity of several green spaces, such as Honore Palmer Park and Commercial Club Park to the south and GreenHouse Garden to the north.
For the conversion and renovation, ACF Maintenance and Remodeling is serving as the general contractor. Timeline details regarding when work should be wrapped up have not yet been announced.
