A pair of construction permits issued the first week of May will plug a gap on West Arthington Street tucked away in the southwest corner of East Garfield Park. On May 7, permission to build three-flats at 2917 and 2919 West Arthington came through the data portal 38 days after their application start dates, with each showing an $850,000 reported cost.

The identical permits call for three-story, three-unit “apartment” buildings with three outdoor on-slab parking spaces. There will be front open decks on the top two levels and rear egress stairs. Privacy fencing will enclose the back yards. Capital Home Improvement Inc of Palos Heights is listed as the property owner and general contractor, with Michael Cox & Associates named as architect of record. The specification of these as apartment buildings indicates they will be for rent, not for sale.
The two lots have been vacant since an April 2012 demolition permit was issued to tear down a residence at 2917. A former single-family home, the owner received a permit in September 2008 to add a second dwelling unit and to build a rear addition. Google images from 2011 show the addition had been built, with construction fencing still at the front of the home. Alas, it was razed months later.

Very encouraging to see posts about infill housing in areas like East Garfield Park. Is there anywhere to see numbers of how many new units are being built or in process in areas like this on the south and west side?
