Construction will top out soon for the residential redevelopment of the Arandas Tires & Rims shop at 1501 North Ashland Avenue in the Pulaski Park neighborhood of West Town. Block work has risen to the fifth and final floor on all four sides of the building, and textured brick covers much of the west and south façades facing Ashland Avenue and West Le Moyne Street.

Arandas is putting up a five-story, 44-unit building to replace their former garage and showroom. Ranging in size from studios to three-bedroom layouts, the apartments will occupy the second through fifth floors. The first floor will contain a new Arandas showroom and offices, with a 16-space garage accessed from the alley off Le Moyne. An additional six parking spaces will be available as well. A rendering from Mexico Architecture firm GHR Arquitectura depicts most units with inset balconies. The fully-sprinklered building will have a shared deck on the roof with stair enclosures and an elevator penthouse.

The redevelopment got underway with a demolition permit issued on July 10 of last year to tear down the two-story facility. The demo permit came in using the address of 1501 North Ashland; the new construction permit, issued July 15, uses 1554 West Le Moyne Street. During construction, Arandas has set up a small shop next door at 1517 North Ashland.

The new apartments are located one block south of the intersection of North Ashland and West North Avenues, where CTA bus stops are available for Route 9, X9, and 72. Three blocks south lies the intersection with West Division Street and North Milwaukee Avenue, with access to the Division Blue Line subway station and #56 and #70 buses.

That showroom will look tired in no time.
*rim shot*
Man what an awful rendering. I’m sure it will look better than that, even if it won’t be a masterpiece. Not like Ashland is some architectural Mecca, lol
