Site prep and digging of the foundation have begun for a three-and-a-half-story plus basement, three-unit building at 1406 West Cuyler Avenue in Graceland West. A permit was issued for the property back on January 10, and last week, an excavator was delivered to the site in anticipation of work getting started. And now, general contractor Skal Construction & Development of Elk Grove Village has gotten to work.

GSL Design, based in Glenview, IL, is the architect of record for the project. Features detailed in the construction permit include an open metal stairway connecting to decks on all floors at the back of the building, plus a masonry porch on the north façade, fronting Cuyler Avenue. Until recently, there had been a small garage at the back of the property, but that structure has been demolished, and it is not being replaced. Instead, there will be three open parking spaces on a concrete slab.

Happy to see development but that sure looks like a narrow plot of land between the two existing buildings. Very curious to see the new structure.
It’s a normal sized lot for Chicago, same size as the greystone next door
