The Chicago Tribune Freedom Center gets closer to oblivion with each passing day, just as Bally’s Chicago Casino gets closer to beginning construction. The dramatic demolition scene continues to play out at Halsted Street and Chicago Avenue in West Town, as Brandenburg Industrial Services reduces the former newspaper-printing plant to rubble.
Time is of the essence here; Bally’s is expected to open the casino in 2026.

I was very surprised the newspaper didn’t take down the building exterior signage. Not a great Public Relations move to have tons of photos of a building with a giant “Chicago Tribune” sign attached to it being demolished.
They had a wee bit of an accident… part of the demolition fell into the river on Saturday and a huge patch of white foam went up north on the river. I am sure OSHA and EPA are looking into it?
I hope the train line there is put back in service
Thanks for all the great photos. Unfortunately, they sadly indicate the state of print media these days.

With the closing of Bloomer chocolate, time to terminate the tracks at concrete plant N of Chicago and remove all the tracks south.
