A renovation permit has been approved for alterations at an existing edifice at 58 W Huron Street in River North. The property, owned by Rush Oak LLC, is a three-story office building. The planned work involves significant structural changes, specifically the removal of the masonry bearing walls down the center of the building and their replacement with steel beams and columns to support the floor loads of the second and third floors as well as the roof. The renovations will not result in changes to the building’s use, size, or occupancy.
The architect of record for this renovation is Michael Aiello, while Amber Dellangelo will oversee the structural work. Though the plans involve substantial modifications to the existing structure, the overall layout, function, and facade will be preserved.
The site is located within close reach of Routes 22, 36, 66, 125, and 156, all of which are within a five-minute walk. For rail service, Chicago Station on the CTA’s Red Line is a five-minute walk from the property, while the other Chicago Station serviced by the Brown and Purple Lines is an eight-minute walk away.
PMD Builds LLC will be executing the renovations as the general contractor. At present, there has been no announced completion date for the project.

Very glad to see this little vintage building being saved. But frankly, I’m shocked someone isn’t tearing it down for something taller.
