A demolition permit was issued last week for a two-story residence along with a detached frame garage located at 2046 W Addison Street in the North Center neighborhood. A permit has been submitted, but not yet issued, to erect a three-story, multi-unit masonry building along with a two-vehicle garage. The filing also indicates the presence of a roof deck and an external staircase.

The nearest transportation service is bus service for Route 152 at the intersection of Addison & Hoyne via a one-minute walk across the street. The nearest CTA Brown Line access is located at the Addison station via a six-minute walk east. There are a number of popular restaurants and retail options along N Damen Avenue and W Addison Street.

Land Enterprises Inc will be serving as the demolition contractor on this project. An estimated completion date has not yet been announced.

  1. A building near an L stop being replaced with more density and less than 1:1 parking? I’ll take it.

    • Eh, not worth the teardown (environmentally, architecturally, etc.) – I’m really tired of the brazen erasure of Chicago-style structures.

  2. Ya, everyday now is yet another piece of history gone. If these were being replaced with slender 6-10 story multi-family housing structures like Brooklyn does it, then it’d be worth the sacrifice.

These are not dilapidated eyesores plaguing the community. They are almost always in fine shape and should be protected. Its like gutting the Loop to replace it with Streeterville.
