On Friday, a demolition permit was issued for a two-story multi-unit residence with a detached garage located at 3742 N Claremont Avenue in the North Center neighborhood. The permit’s owners have been listed as Meath Construction.

There are plenty of transportation access points, with Route 49 as the closest bus service option to this property. This route can be found at the intersection of Western & Grace via a three-minute walk west. The CTA L Brown Line can be found at the Addison station via a 15-minute walk east.

Illinois Excavation will be serving as the demolition contractor on this project. Permits have been filled but not issued for a new two-story single-family home with a basement and a detached two-vehicle garage with its own rooftop deck. An estimated completion date has not yet been announced.

  1. someone with taste likely could’ve fixed this up real nice into a SFH… If you want new construction there are plenty of vacant lots or less charming homes to knock down.

  2. I agree with Jordan. Another piece of Chicago’s fine architectural and neighborhood history dissappears and will undoubtably be replaced with a lumpy, cheaply detailed, boxy building.

  3. Agreed with above, if this isn’t changing to at least a 4-unit building, it shouldn’t be getting knocked down. City should have very strict demolition oversight until there is no empty land left.
