We barely got a chance to tell you about the demolition permit for an 1880s residential building at 1063-67 West Taylor Street in Little Italy, and now demo work has already gotten underway. Heneghan Wrecking wasted no time getting started, as they bring down the three-story brick building owned by St. Ignatius College Prep.

Still no word on what the school plans to do with the property, which sits just north of the campus with a narrow alley separating it from the turf sports field and track bearing their Wolfpack logo.

The nine doorbells on the two front doors along Taylor Street give a very good indication of how many dwelling units there were in the building.

The permit shows an estimated demo cost of $170,000. Already gone is the building next door, at 1059 West Taylor, which was also owned by St. Ignatius. That structure was issued a demo permit in October 2023; it was purchased in November 2022 for $1.25 million.

  1. RIP, solid-looking old brick building. Home to many over the years. I know we can’t keep everything. BTW – Will the school pay taxes on this property? Just asking…

  2. Wow, they wasted no time. As if that area hasn’t seen enough decimation within the past ~70 years
