Last month, Kraft Heinz unveiled their plans to channel upwards of $400 million into creating an automated CPG distribution center in DeKalb. Spanning 775,000 square feet, this center will be equipped with cutting-edge automation systems and direct railway access. The initiative primarily targets refining Kraft Heinz’s supply routes, ensuring quicker product deliveries to retailers and the food service sector. Additionally, the development is expected to usher in over 150 new job positions nearby.
An article by the City of DeKalb highlights that the facility’s design includes a continuous automated storage and retrieval solution. This technology will allow the company to handle a significant portion of Kraft Heinz’s products—accounting for more than 60% of the food service sector and 30% of all dry goods. Additionally, this venture represents Kraft Heinz’s ESG goals. The enterprise seeks to lessen its environmental footprint by leveraging sustainable technologies and methodologies aimed at waste reduction.
To actualize this ambitious project, Kraft Heinz has forged partnerships with a consortium of other entities. Key collaborators comprise the Trammell Crow Company (TCC); Krusinski Construction Company (KCC), responsible for the principal construction; Daifuku, delivering integrated logistics automation; and both the City of DeKalb and the DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC), facilitating the facility’s development. Kraft Heinz anticipates the facility to come online by 2025.
