“We Will Chicago” Launches Global Voices, Local Action Webinar Series

We Will Chicago Brochure

“We Will Chicago,” a citywide initiative from Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot‘s office has been launched to encourage and facilitate neighborhood growth by addressing social and economic inequities that hinder Chicago’s image as a so-called global city.

This is the first citywide initiative of its kind since the “1966 Comprehensive Plan.” We Will’s efforts are still evolving, but the three-year citywide planning initiative prioritizes equity, resiliency, and engagement to create an inclusive vision for the future of Chicago. The program will host a virtual series with the goal to increase vibrancy across all of Chicago, by looking at models and practices brought about by global thought leaders. Each event will feature a panel presentation of international and local city experts followed by an interactive workshop with participants.

The first of these virtual events is today, Thursday, June 9th, from 11:30 am to 1 pm CT, and will focus on Housing & Neighborhoods to explore international models that advance the goal of stable, affordable, and well-connected housing. The next event in the series is set for Thursday, June 23rd, from 12 pm to 1:30 pm CT, and will examine international models of Arts & Culture that advance the goal of supporting and growing artistic work in communities. This is a seven-part series, and each will represent a pillar of We Will Chicago plan. The program is actively seeking citywide participation and is highly encouraging community engagement and feedback. 1. slow news day..

  2. Is this turning in to Curbed with interest pieces and lifestyle articles?

    • Man curbed was great, they need to bring that back. Would love an update on their 40+ developments in the West Loop article.

      • I agree that Curbed was great for a period. They had some interesting development articles like the West Loop one that you mentioned. Nearing the end though it became all about stories like; “What $400k gets you in Wicker Park” and “Celebrity Chef Opening River North Restaurant!”…”Old Town to Host 5k Run This Saturday.”

Yimby has been geared more towards hardcore urban development nerds and less about social life. You can’t beat what @Jack Crawford is doing in terms of his ever evolving model and his excellent construction photography. He’s an amazing contributor to this site that we are lucky to have.
