The City of Chicago has issued a self-certification permit for the construction of a new three-story, three-dwelling unit prefabricated modular building located at 1641 West 47th Street in Back of the Yards. The permit, which was applied for on June 21 and issued on July 3, includes a rear open steel stair and two unenclosed parking stalls.
The total cost of the project is estimated at $1,847,447, with permit fees totaling $2,375. This includes a building fee of $2,300 and a zoning fee of $75. The applicant paid an initial fee of $375, with the remaining $2,000 still unpaid.
The owner of the property is New City Redevelopment LP. Plans were designed by Peter Zelenko. When complete, 1641 West 47th Street will be located steps from stops for the 9, X9, and 47 bus lines.

It’s nice to see one of the modular homes being built! I’m surprised that they didn’t need a Variance for residential on the first floor.
Please keep reporting on this one – we’re all interested in seeing how one of these prefabs comes out.
