Foundation permits were applied for the potential next phase of the Southbank development in the South Loop. Located at 648 S Wells Street, just south of the intersection with W Harrison Street, the new structure will come soon after the opening of The Reed nearby. The project is being led by developer Lendlease with architecture firm FitzGerald Associates working on its design.

Situated under the address 234 W Polk Street, the project is the second tower to be built after The Cooper adjacently east, as well as two acres of parkland and a riverwalk running alongside the Chicago River’s south branch.

Metal paneling, glass, and painted concrete are all now visible for The Reed at Southbank, a 41-story residential building rising at 234 W Polk Street in South Loop. Developed by Lendlease, Southbank itself refers to a larger four-building masterplan that split off from CMK‘s planned Riverline development just to the south. This Southbank masterplan also comes with an extended stretch of Riverwalk and a small urban park located in its center.
